Where has the week gone?

I tried to accomplish something major every day this week. So far I’ve been successful.

Monday: nothing. Holiday. Something about families.

Tuesday: 1. built a radar like sensor that mapped a room and output the results as modulated sound. Basically I modulated an audio track by the distance things were from the sensor as it swept through a 180 degree arc. And because I can’t do without an image, I also mapped it on screen.

2. I wrote a sketch in processing that took live video input and transformed it in real time. That was done mostly for fun.

3. There was a third thing, but I’ll have to fill it in later as I’ve not had much sleep and can’t remember what it was.

Wednesday began as a bit of a bust. I messed around with putting text on a curve. Then I spent some time re-writing my earthquake visualization sketch from scratch. Then at about midnight I began to write a processing sketch that took earthquake data from the USGS site and dumped it into a database. That took ’till about six Thursday morning because I had mangled a database install a few months ago so it was most of the night spent uninstalling and re-installing php, mysql and phpmyadmin before I could get the processing sketch all set up and working smoothly. But success.

Thursday: wrote a little php script to take the data from the database and spit it out as a url encoded string. Then wrote a little actionscript visualizer to play a new version of my earthquake sketch, but this time with flash. There are about 900 earthquakes all from the last week represented here. Here’s the video … if it embeds itself.

Edit: I took out the youtube version ’cause it was terrible. I’m testing vimeo instead.
