The last day was bright and warm — except down by the ocean where it was chilly and foggy. Got off to a slow start. Arrived down by the beach by about noon hoping that the fog would burn off. Alas, it didn’t.

Still a very relaxing way to start to wind up a vacation.
After lunch I went to visit the Fortress. It was ok. There’s not very much left of the original structures. Every thing on display except for an extremely small amount of rusty iron tools etc. and in one case, the floor of a building was built in the last 40 years.
They did try to use the tools and techniques and built from plans gleaned from surviving documents.
There were some interesting structures, such as:

As the fortress was designed to withstand a siege (which it spectacularly failed to do both times the British attacked) it had to keep itself supplied. Here is an example of both food and pens:

I’ll sign off tonight with a photograph I took last night:

This image is out to sea from Louisbourg harbour. Taken about half hour after sunset.
These two were taken yesterday and today respectively. Yesterday at the Kennington Cove (just past the Fortress):

And this morning we went for a walk along the ocean opposite the Fortress along a new trail that my friend Mike is chair of the committee overseeing the construction thereof:

Now off to the Fortress.
I’m here in Sydney River Nova Scotia. I have never been up to this part of Cape Breton before. The weather is perfect. Warm days and cool nights. Took a drive along the coast just at sunset.
They do things differently here. For instance:

This sign is simply wrong on every level.
I also was playing with the camera shooting night time images along the Cape Breton coast. Mainly between Sydney and a town called Dominion. Here are a few images of the bay between Lingan powerstation and Dominion. Please not that the stars are bright bright bright.

That’s all for now. I have limited internet access.
