As I mentioned yesterday, I updated my machine to the new Mac Os X Leopard a few days ago. I’m still playing around with it (and am being delightfully surprised by some of the more subtle changes).

My friend also updated her MacBook Pro to Leopard. There’s a new feature that allows one machine running leopard to view (and control) the screen of another machine running leopard on the same network. (Don’t panic, they need full user name and password access and this feature is turned off by default.) Well, Cara opened my screen on her machine. It was really strange. She could take control (opening files, moving windows etc.) I wanted to see what would happen if, while she had my screen open on her desktop, I opened her screen on mine. The result is really neat! I bought a copy of the new os. And today, on the way home, I bought a new keyboard. My old keyboard is broken and I need it when I have the laptop on my desk at home. I have a little thing set up where I have an external hard drive, and a second monitor all set up.

This entry exists mainly so that I can see if I can and will type well with the new keyboard. So far it is good. Really skinny, but the keys give good feedback and they are widely spaced enough that my big sausage-like fingers can glide across them like Dame Margot Fontaine used to move across the stage.

har.

Here is a photo of the keyboard (ripped off from the apple site.)

Went to the Apple store last night and actually stood in (a very short) line to get the new operating system. Then stayed up ’till 3am installing it. (backing up my system drive took 4 hours) sigh. what a nerd.

sigh, what a nerd.

Took it out for a test. I haven’t had time to use it in a while. Used my very old AF Nikkor 24mm f2.8 lens. I like that lens. The only drawback is that it is the first generation AF lens by Nikon so the focussing ring is quite small. The next gen. AF lenses had more robust focussing rings.

Here’s an image that will become part of my “finished eating” series (or book).

I went to meet a friend for drinkies after school today. I realized that I needed money so I went to the bank at Yonge and Queen. After I got it, I noticed how lit up the side of the Eaton centre was. Very urban.

Then I met with Dave L. at the Magpie which is a nice little bar. I had a ale called “Devil’s pale ale” which wasn’t pale at all, it was more of a light stout.

and had a good time hanging out. It reminded me of an image I had of her once that I really liked. It was in a group of images that I thought I had deleted. Today, while waiting (in vain) for some students to show up to a scheduled meeting, I thought I’d play with the podcast template that is a part of GarageBand. It looks easy to use. One of the palettes that opened up was a media browser. The media browser is connected to iPhoto. And there in iPhoto were about 100 of the images I thought I’d lost forever.

My computer loves me.

Here’s the image that I went looking for. Those of you who saw my old blog space will remember it. Sadly that space is now gone forever.

My friend and I eating and having coffee.

It was both nice to see her again, and nice to have found this image. Yaaay!

I saw this:

confused mess of fences

I was fascinated by the how “protected” it seemed. And how closed in and unfriendly it was. Then I moved the camera so I could view the image I had just taken and saw this:

shiny

Which struck me in a completely different way. I loved the play of light across the metal seat back and the rich reds of the seat covers. There’s a hint of humanity in the background and brightness outside.

Sigh. Only made one shake with it and it is dead. All dead. I mourn the passing of the shakey mixer.

Err… never mind. Just had to wack it one on the side, perhaps a loose wire. Works like a treat now. Yaaay.

Daiquiris forever!
